BRAIN DAMAGE

written and performed by Jim Post

Back in the 1960's

You warned me over and over

That LSD is gonna give you

Brain damage, brain damage

Turn your brain into mush...

I laughed in your face

I was a national disgrace

As I took my place

In a protest march

Against a war

But don't listen to me

I'm crazy, you see

I should see a shrink

My brain's on the blink

I'm missing a link

I'm suffering from brain damage, brain damage

From taking that LSD

It may have been my brain damage

Was caused by the DDT's

They sprayed it on the cattle feed

And on the apples in the trees

And that DDT was like a shotgun

Pointed to the sky

Birds were falling like broken leaves

Even the eagles died

And I stood there and cried

But don't listen to me

I'm crazy, you see

I should see a shrink

My brain's on the blink

I'm suffering from brain damage, brain damage

From taking that LSD

"I'd like to welcome a friend to help me do this next verse.  Help me welcome to the stage -- boy, was I surprised to see him -- Mr. Bob Dylan!"

"Thank you, Jimmy David!  It's good to be here!  Jesus serves, Jimmy David!"

"I know, I know.  I know.  If you had to serve someone, wouldn't you become a waiter?  Just sing the damn song."

"Well he sure is touchy, you know..."

Now I'm mad at my brain damage

It's just a product of the modern times

Too much red dye #2

Put too much color in my mind

And the preservatives in my food

When they lay my body away

They'll dig me up in 10,000 years

I'll be fresh as a new born babe

But a white loaf of bread?

I'm probably safer dead

I got rocks in my head

I'm sure I'm made out of lead

I'm suffering from brain damage, brain damage

From taking that LSD

"Thank you, Bobby, thank you."

"Thank you, Jimmy David!  I'm going over to Pat Boone's to pray for you, Jimmy David!"

"That's good, that's good.  Now you told me that LSD would ----- space me out, make me irresponsible.  Every April 15th when I fill in my income tax check, I wonder what I'm paying for."

Some new chemical

Pollution for a radiated sky

Deadly weapons to kill young people

And leave the families home to cry

"I say why do I pay this tax?  Well, you know why I pay the tax.  'Cause if I didn't, they'd drag me into court.  But I'd get a very intelligent lawyer to point out the fact of my mental disabilities and demand they give me my money back to me.  'Cause I'm suffering from..."

Brain damage, brain damage, brain damage

From taking that LSD
